post to a post? Leon Panetta?

so, what's up with selecting Leon Panetta for CIA?

personally, the angle of "ignore the CIA they are useless" rings true given OB's rhetoric. It favors his idea that terrorism is at best a policing issue and not a serious threat. should be interesting to see how he does deal with Gitmo. Which of the following:

(1) the world takes the prisoners off our hands
(2) we just quietly relocate them across the US
(3) Gitmo fades away as an issue and remains open

BTW - does anyone read this?

  1. I think the selection of Panetta has more to do with the fact that the Director of CIA isn't the plum position it once was. The National Intelligence Director is the top dog. What exactly does the head of the CIA do? Is he really responsible for running national intelligence in any type of centralized fashion? Not really. Not any longer. Why would Obama select someone like former head of NATO, James Jones, as his NSA but not be able to figure out that he needs someone with real experience to head up the CIA. He has based his whole cabinet on picking people with solid credentials (Hilary aside). You know, Team of Rivals, etc., etc. Nobody with a political future wanted the CIA job or they had too much of a Bush taint. I'm surprised that he didn't find a woman to take the position considering the criticism he has been getting about not having enough women in his administration and the ability to make history by selecting a femenina.

Regarding GITMO, he's going to put the deadliest ones (that they have actual concrete evidence on) through the US legal system. The ones that are plain old dangerous but we don't have enough hard evidence on will be sent to some hole in various different states.

P.S. What are you talking about? This is the most read current affairs periodical in the universe. You gotta promote the blog.
